West Bank Protests over Gaza Turn Deadly as Toll Hits 816

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The largest protest in years erupted in the occupied West Bank over the Israeli atrocities against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as the death toll reached 816.

Two protesters were killed and scores of others injured on Thursday in clashes with Israeli military just north of Jerusalem, according to medics. More protests were reported in Nablus, Bethlehem and Jerusalem.

The 17-day Israeli offensive on Gaza has so far claimed the lives of at least 816 Palestinians, including scores of children, according to the health ministry in Gaza. More than 5,200 others have been reported injured.

Rockets fired from Gaza into Israel killed two Israeli civilians and 32 Israeli soldiers, Al Jazeera reported.

Israel claims that its offensive is targeting Hamas fighters in Gaza and a network of underground tunnels but most of those killed in Gaza were civilians, including scores of children.

At least 15 Palestinians died after a UN facility in Gaza sheltering displaced people was hit on Thursday.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon said he was "appalled" at the incident which "underscores the imperative for the killing to stop - and to stop now".
