Iran Keen to Woo Italian Carmakers
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian trade official expressed the country’s enthusiasm for attracting Italian carmakers.
“In the field of automobile industry, the ground is prepared for cooperation between Iran and Italy,” Head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran Valiollah Afkhami said in a meeting with a visiting Italian trade delegation in Tehran.
He explained that the gradual removal of anti-Iran sanctions have provided a good opportunity for the enhancement of ties between Iranian automakers and foreign companies.
“The link with Iran would be an ideal opportunity for Italy, since Iran is the gateway to the Central Asia,” Afkhami underlined.
Back in May, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani had expressed dissatisfaction with the relatively low level of trade ties between Iran and Italy, saying it did not match the vast potential of the two countries.
“Given the determination of the two countries’ officials to promote mutual cooperation, proper planning should be done in this regard,” Larijani said at the time.
A whole host of foreign companies have found new grounds for investment in Iran following the election of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in August 2013.
