US Biggest Loser for Imposing Sanctions: Iranian Ambassador

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Republic of Azerbaijan said Washington and the American corporations were the main losers as a result of imposing economic sanctions against Iran.

“Statistics by the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) show that the US has suffered a loss of between $134.7bln to $175.3bln during the 1995-2012 period, making it the biggest loser among all the countries,” said Mohsen Pakayeen in an interview with the Trend News Agency in Baku.

The Iranian envoy stressed that the figure only includes industrial exports of the US to Iran and neither covers losses related to the exports of other materials nor the losses caused by increases in oil price.

“US-led sanctions on other countries around the world have cost Washington between 51 and 66 thousand jobs,” noted Pakayeen.

The Iranian diplomat added that Germany suffered the most from anti-Iran sanctions among the European countries with $73bln during 2010-2012 period followed by Italy and France with $42.8bln and $34.2bln respectively.

The United States have long imposed economic, trade, scientific and military sanctions against Iran.
