Iran Ready to Help Lebanon Counter Terrorism: Spokeswoman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is ready to help Lebanon in its efforts to counter terrorism in the country, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said on Wednesday.
During talks with the Lebanese officials, Iran has announced its preparedness to assist the country in its efforts to fight terrorism, Afkham said at her weekly press briefing in Tehran, referring to the recent terrorist activities by the Takfiri groups in the Lebanese border town of Arsal, some 88 kilometers from the capital Beirut.
“If Lebanon accepts, we are ready to offer help… Iran has always been ready to help boost the unity and stability of Lebanon,” she noted.
On Saturday, Takfiri militants carried out a large-scale incursion into Lebanon. On Monday, dozens of armored personnel carriers, tanks and elite troops of Lebanon surrounded the town of Arsal as thousands of Lebanese civilians and Syrian refugees fled the clashes in vehicles packed with all they could carry.
A Lebanese military source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said on Monday that fighting in the mountains around Arsal had killed at least 16 soldiers and dozens of militants.
