23 Killed in Eastern India Flood

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - At least 23 people have been killed and tens of thousands affected by flood in the eastern Indian state of Orissa over the past few days, said local TV channel CNN-IBN Wednesday.

Water is rising alarmingly in the Mahanadi river and its subsidiaries, prompting the state government to step up rescue operation, said the TV channel.

The state's chief minister Naveen Patnaik reviewed the flood situation and held video conference with officials of the districts affected by the flood.

Over 1.2 million cusec water was likely to flow in the river from Thursday following heavy rains, said government officials, Xinhua reported.
