US, Iran to Resume Bilateral Talks in Geneva: US State Department

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US State Department said Iranian and American deputy foreign ministers will meet in Geneva on Thursday to continue nuclear negotiations.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department Marie Harf twitted that on Thursday morning US-Iran bilateral talks would continue in Geneva.

Harf added that US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, US Under Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, and US Vice President National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will meet Iranian negotiators today at 12:30 Tehran time to discuss disagreements over Iran’s nuclear energy program.

According to Harf, the Iranian delegation would include Iran’s Deputy Foreign Ministers Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht Ravanchi as well as other nuclear negotiators.

On July 18, after more than two weeks of intensive diplomatic negotiations in Vienna, Iran and the six nations agreed to continue talks for another four months.

The two sides decided to extend the nuclear talks until November 24 in the hope of clinching a final deal. The four-month extension of the talks began on July 21.

Iran and the sextet on November 24, 2013, signed an interim nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Geneva.

The breakthrough agreement (the Joint Plan of Action), which came into effect on January 20, had given the parties extendable six months to draw up a comprehensive nuclear deal.
