Afghanistan Attaches Great Importance to Iran: FM Osmani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Afghanistan’s foreign minister said Afghan government and nation place a special position for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“The friendly ties between Iran and Afghanistan are satisfactory and there are necessary grounds to further expand relations,” said Zarar Ahmad Osmani during his meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Kabul Mohammad Reza Bahrami.

Osmani expressed his country’s readiness to host the meeting of Kabul-Tehran Joint Commission on Consular Affairs.

The Afghan minister also called on Bahrami to increase daily visas for Afghan nationals from 200-300 to 500-600.

The Iranian diplomat, for his part, said the two countries have excellent diplomatic relations, and gave assurance to take part in the Joint Commission on Consular Affairs.

He also pledged to follow Afghanistan’s visa demand aimed at increasing granting of visa to Afghan nationals.

The two neighboring countries have long had close diplomatic ties as well as cultural and lingual commonalities. In addition, Afghanistan represents a significant export market for Iranian products.

Iran has for decades hosted millions of refugees from Afghanistan, though it has received little international support.
