Iranian Diplomat Warns against Takfiri Threats to Global Peace

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian deputy foreign minister cautioned against the threats to global peace and security posed by foreign sponsorship for Takfiri (extremist) groups.

Using Takfiri terrorists as a political tool by certain countries will inflict irreparable political and security damage and human losses on the regional and international communities, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Friday.

Undoubtedly, Takfiri groups in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon cannot operate without foreign support, the Iranian diplomat was quoted by Press TV as saying.

He emphasized that the Takfiri mindset has nothing to do with the pure and real Islam and represents a link between the Zionist regime of Israel and the terrorist currents such as the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The ISIL is a militant group in Iraq and Syria believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries. The terrorist group claims as an independent state inside Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

In addition to attacks on government and military targets, the group has claimed responsibility for attacks that have killed thousands of Iraqi civilians.
