Iran to Increase Air Defense Sites to Nearly 5,000
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base said on Thursday that the country is planning to increase the number of its air defense sites from the current 3,600 to 5,000.
Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said the expansion of air defense sites would take place in the near future.
The high-ranking commander, who was visiting a one-day air defense drills in the Caspian Sea coasts, also announced that during the military exercises a new pre-planned unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been tested for the first time.
General Esmaili added that the pre-planned UAV was successfully intercepted and hit by the forces attending the air defense drills.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems. As part of these accomplishments, Iran’s aerial defense has been able to build a big part of its equipment and arsenal by its own experts.
Tehran has always assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to the regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
