Iran Claims Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team clinched the title of the world Championships on Sunday.

In the 59kg category, Hamid Sourian defeated Mingiyan Semenov from Russia 2-1 and won the gold. He won his sixth world title.

Afshin Biabangard claimed the bronze medal in the 71kg after beating Aliaksandr Dzemyanovich from Bulgaria 5-3.

In the 98kg, Iran’s Ghasem Rezaei clinched a bronze medal by defeating Bulgarian Aliaksandr Hrabovik 4-1.

On Saturday, Omid Norouzi won a silver medal in the 66kg after being defeated by Serbian Davor Štefanek.

The Iranian Greco-Roman team won the World Wrestling Championships for the first time with 42 points.
