Iran Unveils New Drone for Air Combats (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran on Tuesday unveiled its latest military Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which is equipped with air-to-air missiles suitable for aerial combats.

In a ceremony in Tehran, Iran's Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami unveiled the homegrown aircraft, known as the first Iranian drone armed with the air defense missiles.

The official said the combat drone has successfully undergone the whole operational tests and is ready to come into service.

“This drone is able to destroy various types of flying objects including fighter aircraft, UAVs and choppers,” General Hatami explained.

The new drone would extend the range of the aerial operations carried out by the Iranian armed forces and would also boost their capabilities in tracking, chasing and hitting the intruding aircraft, he added.

The Islamic Republic is now in possession of a broad range of UAVs which can be used for both civilian and military purposes.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to the regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
