Ayatollah Khamenei Debunks US-Led Campaign against ISIL

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Monday dismissed as "lie" the US-led war against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group, stressing that the real objective is to sow discord among the Muslim nations.

In a Monday address to a huge gathering of people in Tehran on the festive occasion of Eid al-Ghadeer, Ayatollah Khamenei described the emergence of Takfiri moves in Iraq, Syria and some other countries as the result of a planning by the arrogant powers for creating rift among Muslims.

“They (the arrogant powers) created al-Qaeda and the ISIL to incite division and to counter the Islamic Republic, but now they themselves have been beset (with those problems),” the Leader stated.

Commenting on the US-led coalition to fight against the ISIL, the Leader explained, “A careful and analytic look at the developments reveal that the US and its allies, in efforts that are falsely termed countering the ISIL, seek to create division and enmity among the Muslims rather to destroy the root causes of that (terrorist) current.”

Imam Khamenei further called on the whole Muslims to completely avoid any move that might incite other religious sects.

“Shiites and Sunnis should know that any measure or remark, including an insult to each other’s sanctities, will cause sensitivity and ignite flames, and this will definitely serve the interests of the common enemy of the whole Muslims,” the Leader explained.

As the security condition in Iraq has deteriorated in a fresh outbreak of violence since June, when the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group seized parts of territory in the Arab country, Iran has always voiced support for any initiative aimed at bringing back security and stability to Iraq.

The ISIL terrorists have also threatened other communities, including Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, and others, in Iraq.

They have been committing heinous crimes in the areas they have taken, including the mass execution of civilians as well as Iraqi army troops and officers.
