Iranian Speaker: Big powers, Terrorists Destroying Entire Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian parliament speaker cautioned about the destructive consequences of big powers and terrorists’ activities in the region.

“In different periods, we have never witnessed a situation in the region worse than the current one,” Larijani said during a meeting with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer on the sidelines of the 131st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva on Monday.

“Meanwhile" Larijani said "big countries and terrorists intend to destroy the entire region to make it one of their achievements."

He also commented on the heinous crimes committed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group, saying that the group is worse than Taliban.

The Iranian parliament speaker also expressed the hope that the ICRC’s efforts in the Middle East region would help the people come out of the crisis.

Maurer, for his part, underlined that he has the same viewpoint on the current situation of the region, and expressed the hope that the consultations between the two sides on the issues would continue in future.
