Iran Reaffirms Support for Regional Nations in Fighting Terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reiterated that Tehran will keep supporting the regional countries that have gotten entangled in the war against terrorism.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the regional nations, including the Syrian, Lebanese and Iraqi nations and the others which are fighting terrorism, and will keep offering those supports,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Lebanon’s Defense Minister Samir Moqbel in Tehran on Sunday.

“Iran believes that the terrorist groups must be thrown out of the region and their criminal activities should be stopped,” the Iranian president added.

Rouhani also praised the Lebanese nation for its steadfast resistance to the Israeli assaults, expressing the hope that the whole Lebanese people with different religions and from diverse sects would remain united to preserve their country’s integrity in the face of enemies.

Moqbel, for his part, said there is strong consensus among the entire Lebanese groups on the need for supporting the army in the battle against the terrorist groups.

He also described as “significant” the Islamic Republic’s supports for Lebanon’s security and counter-terrorism efforts.

High-ranking Iranian official, including Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan, have already pledged assistance to Lebanon.

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani has also voiced Tehran’s preparedness to provide military equipment for Lebanon and to convey its experiences to boost security in the Arab country and the region.
