General Soleimani: ISIL Moves, US Military Campaign Doomed to Failure

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian commander predicted the ultimate failure of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group as well as the US military campaigns, saying they both lack “reality”.

“Either the US campaigns or the ISIL terrorist measures are doomed to failure since they lack reality, and their approaches will not be effectual and victorious,” Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani told reporters on the sidelines of a cultural ceremony in Tehran on Monday.

Nothing will achieve victory if it lacks reality, the commander explained, stressing that the ongoing attempts by the enemies against Iran, Islam and Shiite Muslims will never emerge victorious because they (attempts) are void of truth.

The ISIL militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.

They have been committing heinous crimes in the areas they have taken, including the mass execution of civilians as well as Iraqi army troops and officers.

Since late September, the US and several of its Arab and western allies have been conducting airstrikes against ISIL inside Syria and Iraq with almost no significant result.
