Iran Supportive of Persian Gulf States: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top IRGC commander made assurances that the Islamic Republic as major country in the region would support the Persian Gulf littoral states in critical conditions.

“The whole regional countries are aware that they are the younger brothers of the great nation of Iran who supports them,” Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi told reporters in Tehran on Monday.

He likened Iran and all regional countries to a family which might have differences, but stressed that they are all Muslims and Islam can bring the whole Muslim nations together.

The commander warned that outsiders seek to overplay the differences between Iran and the regional states.

“The Persian Gulf southern countries should consider Iran as a great country in the region which is able to assist them in the critical conditions, and should know that the US and Britain are not well-wishers,” he underscored.

His comments came after some Arab media outlets reported on Wednesday that the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) members plan to form a joint naval force in order to protect the shared waters with Iran.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
