Iran Assures Iraq of Continued Anti-Terror Assistance

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s parliament speaker gave an assurance on Wednesday that Tehran will keep assisting Baghdad in its fight against the terrorist groups.

“The Iranian government and nation will side with the Iraqi people and government in all circumstances and will support them with the maximum power,” Ali Larijani said in a meeting with Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Tehran on Wednesday.

The speaker stressed that Tehran and Baghdad, in cooperation with each other, will not allow the terrorist groups to threaten Iraq’s security, independence and territorial integrity.

The Iraqi premier, for his part, expressed gratitude to Iran for its contribution to the establishment of the stability in the Arab country.

“Iran has had a unique role in helping Iraq in the sensitive and difficult junctures over the past years,” noted Abadi.

The ISIL militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.

They have been committing heinous crimes in the areas they have taken, including the mass execution of civilians as well as Iraqi army troops and officers.

Amid tensions in Iraq, Iran is known as the first country to help the Arab country and has always voiced support for Iraq’s solidarity and prosperity.
