Iran to Attend Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Pakistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran plans to participate in the next meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), due to be held in Pakistan’s Lahore from December 1 to 3, Iranian parliament's vice-speaker said.

The assembly meeting will be chaired by Pakistan and the member countries plan to discuss the agreements reached by the cultural, social and economic committees, Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard said on Monday.

He also commented on the establishment of the secretariat of the APA in Tehran and said Iran’s status in the assembly is known to everybody.

The Iranian lawmaker described the APA as a prelude to the formation of the Asian Parliament, and expressed the hope that the countries whose parliaments have closer ties would push to found that organization.

The APA was established in 2006 at the Seventh Session of the Association of Asian Parliamentary for Peace (AAPP).

In other words, the APA is continuation of an organization which was established in 1999. In 2007, the APA was comprised of 41 Member Parliaments and 17 observers.
