Iran: Nuclear Deal Should Remove All Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) underlined that any final agreement between Iran and the world powers over the country’s peaceful nuclear program should result in the removal of all sanctions against Tehran.

“Unilateral sanctions or the resolutions (passed) by the UN Security Council (against Iran) have no legal basis and they should be annulled,” Ali Shamkhani said in an interview with Lebanon's al-Mayadeen television.

If the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) do not result in such outcome, the talks will be futile, he added.

Shamkhani, however, expressed the hope that the two sides would reach a deal by November 24 deadline.

The Iranian official also reiterated the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear program, and said, “Our defense doctrine has no place for unconventional weapons.”

Iran’s nuclear activities have been under constant supervision of the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) over the last 12 years, he added.

The remarks by Shamkhani came as diplomats from Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in Vienna to hammer out a final, long-awaited agreement to resolve the West’s decade-old standoff over Iran's civilian nuclear work.
