Iranian Vice-Speaker Stresses Closer Parliamentary Ties with Pakistan

In a meeting with Mushahid Hussain Syed, the chairman of Pakistan’s Senate committee on National Defense, held in Pakistan on Wednesday, Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard said the two countries enjoy close ties and numerous cultural commonalities and interests.

“Definitely, there are great potential especially in the area of parliamentary cooperation between Iran and Pakistan,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Aboutorabi-Fard thanked Pakistan for hosting the 7th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), which was held in Lahore from Monday to Wednesday.

Mushahid Hussain, for his part, said that Iran and Pakistan are the active members of the APA and “belong to the same family”.

He also pointed to Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani’s upcoming visit to Pakistan on Thursday, saying that the trip would largely help promote parliamentary ties between the two countries.
