Top Cleric: Iran-Egypt Ties Should Boost Proximity among Muslims
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Senior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi emphasized the importance of close Tehran-Cairo relations, saying that the potential should be used to boost religious proximity among Muslims.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi made the remarks in a Monday meeting with Ahmad Moballeghi, the chancellor of Iran’s Islamic Madhahib University, who represented Iran in a recent international conference on fight against terrorism and extremism in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.
The conference in Cairo came a few weeks after hundreds of Muslim scholars from various sects, including Shiites and Sunnis, and from 83 countries, including Egypt, gathered in Iran’s holy city of Qom on November 23 to take part in an international conference on dangers of Takfirism.
The cleric warned that the enemies are making every effort to hamper the growing relations between Iran and Egypt.
