Iran’s Speaker to Tour Region to Boost Resistance

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani is to start a regional tour as part of efforts “to strengthen the resistance front” in the region.

Larijani is scheduled to leave Tehran for the Syrian capital Damascus on Sunday. The four-day regional tour will also take the senior Iranian lawmaker to Lebanon and Iraq.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday, MP Hossein Sheikholeslam, the adviser of Iran's parliament speaker on international affairs, said the visits are aimed at strengthening the resistance front in the region.

“The parliament speaker is slated to meet the presidents and parliament speakers of Syria, Iraq and Lebanon,” Sheikholeslam said.

Larijani plans to return to Iran after his visit to the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Thursday.

Earlier this week, Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi paid a visit to Tehran and held talks with a number of high-ranking Iranian officials on ways to promote bilateral relations in all spheres.

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri also made a trip to Tehran on December 16 and met with senior Iranian officials during his two-day visit.
