Hamas Arranging Mashaal's Visit to Iran: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior leader of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, said that arrangements are being made for the visit of Hamas political chief Khaled Mashaal to Tehran.

“The arrangements for the visit are being made in coordination with the Iranian authorities,” Esmaeil Rezvan announced on the possible visit of Mashaal to Iran.

Rezvan described as “positive” the relations between Iran and the resistance group, especially following the recent visit by a Hamas delegation to Tehran, and stressed that Palestinian movement is taking steps toward improving the bilateral relations.

“(Hamas Movement’s) relation with Iran is a strategic one aimed at supporting the Palestinian cause,” the Hamas senior member added.

Earlier, Hamas Chief Mashaal had told Al-Resalah newspaper that Iran and Hamas have historical relations on resistance against Israel, and Tehran has supported the Palestinian resistance movement for a long time. Mashaal added that despite the different approaches the two sides adopted regarding Syria, Iran and Hamas have never cut off their ties.

A Hamas delegation, led by Muhammad Nasr, a member of the political bureau of the movement, visited Tehran in early December, during which Mohammed Nasr expressed the Hamas’ eagerness to enhance ties with Iran.
