Iran to Play Iraq in Friendly in Sydney

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian national football team (also known as Team Melli) will meet Iraq in a friendly match on Sunday.

The match will be Iran’s last friendly prior to the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, where Team Melli has been drawn in Group C along with Bahrain, the UAE and Qatar.

Iran and Iraq have played 23 times each other, with Iran winning 13 times, Iran taking four victories and six matches ending in a draw.

Iran and Iraq will likely face together in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup quarter-final.

“I am happy we take on Iraq in a friendly. It can be a good opportunity for us to prepare more for the Asian Cup,” Iran coach Carlos Queiroz said.
