Iranian Nation Not to Relinquish Nuclear Technology: Larijani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s parliament speaker said Iranians will not be intimidated into abandoning their nuclear achievements.

“The Iranian nation will not give up nuclear technology because of the West’s threats,” Ali Larijani said Sunday.

He said the West, which has been pursuing an aggressive approach against the Iranian nation since the victory of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, is now using the nuclear issue as a pretext to confront the Iranian people. “You may have caused some trouble for the Iranian people (with pressures exerted under the nuclear pretext) but you have failed to persuade the nation to give up nuclear technology,” Larijani stressed.

His comments came as diplomats from Iran and six world powers on Sunday resumed talks in the Swiss city of Geneva on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) seek to reach a framework agreement in March and a final long-term deal by June 30.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani, who was addressing an international conference on “Gaza, Symbol of Resistance”, praised people’s resistance in Gaza and other parts of Palestine.

He underlined that the Palestinian nation will never succumb to pressures but show more resistance against the Zionist regime despite all problems.

The Gaza Strip has been under Israel's crippling siege since 2007, but the blockade and numerous Israeli aggressions have failed to force Gazans give up resistance.

In the latest Zionist aggression on Gaza, which ended in August 2014, over 2,140 Palestinians, including 577 children, were killed and many more were injured.
