Iran FM Meets with Afghan President, Chief Executive Officer


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in Kabul for an official visit, met with senior Afghan officials on Tuesday.

In separate meetings, Zarif held talks with Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani and the country’s Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah.

They discussed bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional issues.

Zarif also met with Zahir Tanin, ambassador and permanent representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations.

The Iranian top diplomat arrived in Kabul on a one-day visit aimed at supporting efforts towards political unity in Afghanistan.

The visit comes as the Afghan president presented his cabinet nominees to the lower house of the parliament for a vote of confidence on Tuesday.

Afghan lawmakers will now start debating the candidates for heading ministries and other cabinet posts.
