Details Discussed in Iran-US Nuclear Talks: Negotiator

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Iranian team of nuclear negotiators said a two-day round of talks with the US delegation in Switzerland were "constructive", noting that discussions have entered into details.

“The negotiations were intensive and serious and we have entered into details,” Abbas Araqchi said after talks with the US diplomatic team, held on Friday and Saturday in the Swiss city of Zurich.

“In these meetings, we entered discussions on diverse subjects, particularly outstanding issues such as (Iran’s uranium) enrichment and the (anti-Iran) sanctions which include full and complicated details,” he added.

Araqchi, however, made it clear that talking about details does not imply that a comprehensive nuclear deal is now definite.

“We are in a position that details and generalities should be studied together. All details should be clear and the parties should move to a position to be able to make decisions on the generalities and the crux of the matter,” the Iranian deputy foreign minister explained.

Negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) aim to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

In the meantime, Iran and the European members of the Group 5+1 –France, Britain and Germany- are scheduled to hold nuclear talks in the Turkish city of Istanbul on January 29.
