Iraqi MP Views US-Led Anti-ISIL Coalition Ineffective

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iraqi lawmaker deplored performance of the US-led coalition against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, saying that the coalition’s attacks on the ISIL terrorists in the Arab country were not effective at all.

“The attacks launched by the international coalition against the ISIL have not been effective even by one percent,” Nayef al-Shemri, a member of the Iraqi National Forces Alliance, said on Tuesday.

“If the coalition had been serious in the fight against ISIL, it would have increased its attacks, particularly because the ISIL targets on the ground are known,” he was quoted by Al-Nahrain website as saying.

He also emphasized that if the Iraqi forces receive weapons and equipment, they will be able to eliminate the terrorist group within a few days.

The ISIL, as a Takfiri group in Iraq and Syria, is believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.
