Iran after Investment in Burundi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian foreign minister on Wednesday pledged support for the country’s private investors that seek opportunities in the African nation of Burundi.

“The private sector is ready to make investment (in Burundi) and we also support such cooperation,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Wednesday.

He made the comments in a meeting with Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza in the African country.

Zarif also expressed Tehran’s willingness to continue and expand friendly ties with Bujumbura.

The African president, for his part, hailed Iran as a friend country that has not left Burundi alone in hard times.

“We are pursuing the path to sustainable and economic development and hope to enjoy Iran’s experience and capabilities,” Nkurunziza explained.

The top Iranian diplomat has embarked on a four-leg tour of Africa since Sunday.

Zarif has visited Kenya, Uganda and Burundi as part of the tour and is scheduled to travel to Tanzania as well.
