Tunisian Coalition Government Wins Vote of Confidence

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Tunisia's parliament approved a unity government including secularists, Islamists and smaller parties, in the latest step in its transition to full democracy following a 2011 uprising.

The cabinet headed by Prime Minister Habib Essid, which includes members of the secularist Nidaa Tounes and the Islamist Ennahda party, was approved on Thursday by 166 members of the 217-seat parliament.

Essid had announced his cabinet lineup on Wednesday, which included the Ennahda party - the main rival of Essid's Nidaa Tounes party, Al Jazeera reported.

This is the second government proposed by Essid. The first government excluded Ennahda, with Essid choosing his cabinet exclusively from Nidaa Tounes and several smaller parties.

Since the 2011 revolution in Tunisia, the political landscape has alternated between deadlocks and compromises between Ennahda and Nidaa Tounes.
