Greco-Roman World Cup: Iran Defeats Sweden


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Iranian wrestling team beat Sweden 6-2 at the Greco-Roman World Cup underway in Tehran.

Iran, who has lifted four of the last five Greco-Roman World Cups, lost to Azerbaijan 6-2 at the Azadi Sport Complex on Thursday morning.

Sweden had defeated Germany 6-2 in the preliminary dual meets. 

Iran is trying for No.5 title without the help of its four pillars of recent Greco-Roman success – London 2012 Olympic Games gold medalists Hamid Soryan(59kg), Omid Noroozi (66kg), Ghasem Rezaei (98kg) and 2011 world champion Saeid Abdvali (71kg).

Team Iran will play Germany today in its last Group A match.

Group B consists of Russia, Armenia, Hungary and Turkey.  Iran will take on the winner from Group B.
