Iranian, Russian FMs Meet in Geneva

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in a Monday meeting in the Swiss city of Geneva discussed a range of issues, including the nuclear talks between Tehran and six world powers.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 28th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Zarif and Lavrov talked about the bilateral relations between Tehran and Moscow, with both stressing the need to bolster the ties.

They also discussed the Middle East developments, particularly the situation in Syria.

The two ministers reviewed the latest developments in the course of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Zarif, who gave a speech to the high-level segment of the annual session earlier in the day, is planned to leave Geneva for Montreux to join the team of Iranian negotiators in a fresh round of nuclear talks.

He is also expected to hold bilateral talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

Deputy foreign ministers from Iran and the US have begun meetings in Montreux.

A plenary session involving Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) will be held on March 5.

The parties held bilateral and multilateral negotiations in Geneva earlier in February to narrow the remaining differences ahead of a deadline for a comprehensive nuclear agreement by July 1.
