Leader Urges National Document on Environment Protection

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday called for the formulation of Iran’s national document on environment, and urged national efforts to protect the environment.

“Formulating a national document on environment and annexed environmental documents for all constructional, industrial, trade and refinery projects, reviewing the law to criminalize damage to the environment, and strengthening indiscriminate supervision are among the most important ways to protect the environment and confront profiteers and lawbreakers,” Ayatollah Khamenei said on Sunday.

The Leader made the comments in a meeting with Iranian environmental officials in Tehran, held on the occasion of the national Week of Natural Resources.

Imam Khamenei then underlined that the issue of environment is not within the purview of a specific administration, individual or political current, but is a “national subject” that requires joint efforts.

The Leader noted that the environmental problems, such as air pollution in large cities and dust particles, could be resolved through patience and prudence.

The Supreme Leader described the environmental challenges as a worldwide problem that cause long-term effects.

“The experiences of different countries show that many environmental problems can be prevented and have solutions,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.

During last year’s National Resources week, the Supreme Leader planted a sapling as a symbolic gesture of respect for the Mother Nature, and called for collective efforts to safeguard the environment.
