Assad Lauds Iran's Backing for Syria's Resistance
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad praised Iran for backing the Arab country, stressing that the Islamic Republic's supports have boosted the Syrian nation’s resistance in the face of foreign-backed plots.
Supports offered by friendly countries, above all by Iran, have had a great effect on enhancing the resistance shown by the Syrian nation, Assad said in meeting with Iran's Economic Affairs and Finance Minister Ali Tayyebnia, in Damascus on Monday.
The Syrian president also underscored the strategic relations between Tehran and Damascus in economic fields.
Tayyebnia, for his part, described Tehran-Damascus relations are deep-rooted and strong in all spheres.
The Iranian minister further noted that Syria’s triumph over terrorism will greatly contribute to the restoration of stability across the region.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. In the past four years, more than 200,000 people have died in Syria -overwhelmingly civilians– and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Another 7.6 million are displaced inside Syria.
