Iran, Azerbaijan Discuss Closer Ties in Defense Industry

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense Industry Yavar Jamalov in a meeting in Baku explored avenues for the exchange of technical know-how in defense industry.

There are abundant opportunities for cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan that should be seized to improve the defense capabilities and the relevant technologies, Dehqan said in a meeting with Jamalov in Baku on Monday.

“The exchange of experience in defense industry between the two countries could upgrade the level of technical-military cooperation,” the Iranian minister noted.

Dehqan also invited the Azeri defense industry minister to visit Iran.

Jamalov, for his part, said Azerbaijan’s rapid development necessitates Baku’s cooperation with the other countries, particularly with the neighbors.

He also contended that stronger ties between Iran and Azerbaijan will serve their mutual interests and will also contribute to calm, security and stability in the region.

Earlier in the day and in a meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, Dehqan voiced Iran’s preparedness to supply the Republic of Azerbaijan's Army with the equipment it needs.

Dehqan is on a visit to the neighboring country at the invitation of his Azeri counterpart Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov.
