Sweden Lauds Iran's Efforts for Peace in Syria


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Swedish special envoy for Syria praised Iran's efforts aimed at the settlement of the crisis in the Arab country.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry's special envoy in Syria affairs held a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian in Tehran on Tuesday.

During the meeting, which focused on talks over the war in Syria, the Swedish diplomat commended Iran's efforts to resolve the crisis in the Arab nation.

He also voiced Stockholm's support for any plan that would help settle the Syrian crisis.

For his part, the Iranian diplomat referred to dialogue as the only way out of the conflicts in Syria.

Amir Abdollahian reiterated that the Syrian people are the only ones who should decide for the fate of their country.

He also urged strict control over the Syrian borders in order to stop the inflow of arms for the militants.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 220,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflict.
