President Expects Rise in Iran-China Economic Ties


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said economic cooperation between Tehran and Beijing will experience an upward trend in the current Iranian year which started on March 21.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Friday upon his arrival from Indonesia, President Rouhani gave details of his trip to Jakarta to attend the Asian-African Conference (AAC).

The president said he held meetings with his counterparts from China, Vietnam and Indonesia as well as prime ministers of Japan and Bangladesh, adding that all those leaders called for the expansion of relations with Iran.

Commenting on the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Rouhani said, “Talks with the Chinese president covered broader issues, including the nuclear negotiations (between Iran and world powers), the economic projects, enhancement of Tehran-Beijing economic relations, and the regional issues.”

A two-day conference was held in Indonesia to mark the 60th anniversary of foundation of the Asian-African Conference.

Delegates from 109 Asian and African countries, 16 observer countries, and 25 international organizations took part in the event.
