Iran, Italy Urge Closer Cooperation in Environment Protection
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian vice-president and the visiting Italian environment minister, in a meeting in Tehran, explored avenues for promotion of mutual cooperation between the two countries in the field of environment protection.
During the meeting, Italian Environment Minister Gian Luca Galletti and Masoumeh Ebtekar, who also heads Iran's Environmental Protection Organization (IEPO), stressed the need for boosting Tehran-Rome cooperation in various environmental fields.
In her remarks, Ebtekar pointed to the upcoming Expo 2015 in Milan, Italy, and expressed the hope that the international event will provide an opportunity for the two countries to exchange information and experiences in the area of environment.
She further highlighted the importance of bilateral scientific and research cooperation in various areas such as climate change and biodiversity in Iran.
Galletti, for his part, commented on Italy’s extensive activities in in the area of environment, saying that biodiversity is one of the country’s priorities and the issue can be an area of cooperation between Tehran and Rome.
Expo 2015 is the next scheduled Universal Exposition after Expo 2012, and will be hosted by Milan between May 1 and October 31, 2015.
Earlier in November, Iranian Vice-President and Head of the Department of the Environment Massoumeh Ebtekar made an official visit to Rome, during which she discussed with Italian officials ways for the promotion of cooperation between the two countries on environmental issues.
