German Envoy Visits Iran's Petchem Projects

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Germany's ambassador to Iran paid a visit to Iran's southern coastal region of Assaluyeh on Sunday to learn about the latest developments in the petrochemical plans in the area, which also hosts facilities of the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone project.

During their one-day visit to Assaluyeh, Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg and his accompanying delegation were briefed by the Iranian officials on the petrochemical projetcs and the latest achievements and development plans in the energy-rich area, adjacent to the Persian Gulf.

Assaluyeh was chosen as the site of the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone because of its proximity to the largest natural gas field in the world, namely the South Pars.

The South Pars gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.

As Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) get closer to a deal on Tehran's peaceful nuclear program, more and more foreign companies are interested to invest in Iran, and the German delegation's visit to Assaluyeh signifies this interest.
