Iraqi President Arrives in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraqi President Fuad Masum arrived at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport Tuesday at the head of a high-ranking delegation that includes the Arab country's tourism, environment and trade ministers.

He was greeted at the airport by Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh.

Masum, who is visiting Iran at the invitation of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, will be formally received by his Iranian counterpart at the Saadabad Palace, northern Tehran, on Wednesday.

During his three-day trip, the Iraqi head of state will hold talks with senior Iranian officials including the president, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

As two neighboring Muslim countries, Iran and Iraq have sought to enhance bilateral ties in various political, economic, cultural and defense areas.

Last week, in a meeting in Baghdad with the Iranian ambassador, Masum voiced Iraq's enthusiasm for using Iran's experiences in scientific and technological fields and other spheres.

Earlier in January, Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri had reiterated the country's strong support for Iraq, saying that the Islamic Republic is prepared to share its experiences with the Arab country in various areas.
