Igor Stimac, New Candidate to Be Esteghlal's Coach

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Croatian coach Igor Stimac is expected to be installed as the new Esteghlal coach on Friday.

The former Croatia defender, 47, will travel to Tehran on Friday to negotiate with the popular Iranian team.

French coach Bernard Simondi and former Esteghlal midfielders Majid Namjoo-Motlagh and Dariush Yazdani were among the candidates for the job.

Alireza Mansourian was also a candidate to replace Amir Ghalenoei but Naft Tehran would not let him join Esteghlal.

Esteghlal finished in sixth place in the Iran Professional League (IPL) last season under Ghalenoei's leadership.
