Iran Can Be Regional Hub for Aircraft Maintenance Services: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An official with Iran's Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology praised the country's aviation industry, saying that Iranian maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) centers are capable of overhauling any kind of aircraft for regional states.

Given the current infrastructure and trained manpower and technicians and the growth in the number of aircraft maintenance students, Iran has the capacity for the development of its aircraft maintenance industry, Keyhan Aqayee said on Tuesday.

He further highlighted Iran's "competitive advantage" in the aircraft maintenance market in the Middle East, given the low prices it charges, saying, "Iran can be a hub for the overhaul of various aircraft in the region."

Before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the overhaul of airplanes in Iran was carried out by foreign attachés. But today the Islamic Republic is able to overhaul even military aircraft thanks to some of the world’s most adept engineers and technicians.

Iran has become one of only a handful of countries capable of performing the servicing and overhaul of its fleet of airplanes, both military and civilian.

This is while the country has been under sanctions since 1979 and the sanctions have become more intense after the country started its peaceful nuclear program.
