President: Iran Determined to Honor Nuclear Commitments
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is resolved to live up to its commitments under a nuclear deal with world powers as long as the other side does not breach it, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said.
"Our decision is to remain committed to what has been stipulated in this agreement (nuclear conclusion), unless the opposite side would not intend to remain committed to it," the president said in a cabinet session on Wednesday.
His comments came after Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a conclusion over the text of a final agreement on Tehran's nuclear program.
After 22 months of diplomatic talks, the negotiating parties on Tuesday agreed on a comprehensive 159-page deal that would have the entire anti-Iran sanctions terminated after coming into force.
Elsewhere in the session, President Rouhani described carrying out the negotiations itself as a "legal, political and technical victory for Iran,” regardless of the outcomes of the final accord.
"My judgment is that this agreement has turned a new page in the history of Iran," he stressed.
The president further lauded the Iranian team of nuclear negotiators for their commitment and tireless efforts in the talks.
Earlier on Tuesday, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei also commended the Iranian negotiating team for its "sincere and serious" efforts in the nuclear negotiations.
