Asian Volleyball Championship: Iran Annihilates Thailand


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran overpowered Thailand in straight sets (25-20, 25-11, 25-20) in classification round of the 18th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship on Monday.

Team B of Iran has been scheduled to face South Korea on Tuesday at the Azadi Indoor Stadium in Tehran.

Iranian Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mahmoud Goudarzi attended the match.

“Thailand plays like the other East Asian teams; however we had analyzed them good," Iran coach Peyman Akbari said.

"I think Iran, China, South Korea and Qatar are the best teams in the tournament."

The 18th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship has started on July 31 and will finish on August 8 at Azadi Indoor Stadium in Tehran.

A total of 17 editions have already been held, Japan has won seven titles, followed respectively by Korea (4), China (3), Iran (2) and Australia (1).

In the previous episode two years ago in Dubai, the UAE, Iran crushed Korea in straight sets to successfully retain their title. China powered past Japan 3-1 in the third-place playoff to win take home the bronze medal.
