Guidi: Italy Keen to Expand Economic Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Italy’s Economy Minister Federica Guidi expressed her country’s willingness to enhance commercial and economic relations with Iran, which faces the looming prospect of a boom in the foreign investment following a comprehensive nuclear deal with six world powers.

The Italian official met Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia in Tehran on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Tayyebnia called for efforts to double the value of trade exchange between Iran and Italy, which he said stands at $1.5 billion.

He also highlighted the suitable grounds for economic cooperation between the two countries, such as investment in the joint projects.

As regards the ideal opportunities for the foreign countries to invest in Iran, Tayyebni highlighted the country’s geopolitical location, its energy reserves, as well as the educated and skilled workforce.

The Italian minister’s visit follows finalization of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the deal would subject the parties to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program during a defined period of time.

Experts believe that Iran’s economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.
