Iran to Keep Supporting Lebanon for Sake of Regional Peace: Zarif


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif vowed Iran’s continued support for the Lebanese people in order for the peace and stability to prevail in the region.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in the Arab country on Wednesday, Zarif said Iran’s continued backing for the people of the region and Lebanon has created synergy is support of the regional peace, stability and calm.

Tehran will continue to apply that method, the top Iranian diplomat added.

As regards the meeting with the Lebanese parliament speaker, Zarif said it provided a good opportunity to discuss the situation in Lebanon and the region.

He also praised Mr. Berri for his major, balancing role in the establishment of peace and stability both in Lebanon and the region.

Commenting on the conclusion of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) over Tehran’s nuclear program, Zarif said the agreement has paved the way for closer cooperation among the regional countries.

He also expressed the hope that the Middle East countries would get rid of internal divisions, sectarianism, extremism and terrorism, which he slammed as major threats to the region.

Zarif on Tuesday began his second tour of the region following the finalization of the text a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He visited Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq in July. The top Iranian diplomat left Lebanon for Syria on Wednesday.
