Iran Rejects 'Conditional' Dialogue for Crisis End in Syria, Yemen
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif renewed Tehran’s call for political solutions to the regional crises, saying the process of dialogue for the settlement of conflicts in Syria and Yemen should not be with preconditions.
“One should not set conditions for dialogue and political processes in Syria, Yemen and the other crisis-hit regions,” Zarif said in a meeting with his Tunisian counterpart Taieb Baccouche in Tunis on Monday.
The Iranian minister also denounced any foreign interference in the Middle East developments, stressing that supportive measures should just help pave the way for dialogue.
Zarif further referred to extremism and terrorism as the major threats to the Islamic world at the current time, calling on all Muslim countries to join hands and unite against extremism.
The top Iranian diplomat traveled to Tunisia on Monday on the first leg of a new round of his international tours after the conclusion of nuclear talks between Tehran and major world powers.
Following the Vienna nuclear talks on July 14, Zarif had visited several countries including Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria in the Middle East as well as India, Pakistan, and Russia.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) finalized the text of a lasting nuclear accord on Tehran’s nuclear program after 23 months of diplomatic negotiations.
