Iran’s Air Force Reached All Goals in Aerial Drills: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) managed to achieve all the objectives set for the recent large-scale aerial exercises, Army Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi announced.

“We have reached all the pre-set goals in Fadaeeyan-e Harim-e Velayat 5 (Devotees of Velayat Airspace 5) war game,” Brigadier General Mousavi told reporters on Sunday.

He further emphasized that all the missions given to the IRIAF forces so far have been successfully accomplished.

In the two-day military drills, which ended in the country’s central regions Sunday, IRIAF fighter jets equipped with domestically-made missiles and smart bombs successfully hit fixed and mobile targets.

Various kinds of IRIAF strike fighters, including F-14, F-4, F-5, Sukhoi Su-24, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) were deployed in the exercises.

The fighters managed to destroy positions of the mock enemy by using smart bombs, such as laser-guided and electro-optical bombs.

The aerial operations were carried out over an area of 400,000 square kilometers, while the target zone in the air-to-ground battles focused on a 7,000 sq. km area.

On Friday, Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Air Force Brigadier General Alireza Barkhor had said the drill’s message for the regional countries was “security, stability, friendship and sustained peace”.

Iran’s Air Force holds annual war games in a bid to boost capabilities to defend the country’s airspace.
