Over 100 Militants Killed in Fresh Operations in Afghanistan: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Some 103 militants have been killed in fresh military operations across Afghanistan in the past 24 hours, said the country's Defense Ministry on Sunday morning.
"Afghan National Army carried out operations across the country over the past 24 hours. As a result 103 armed Taliban members were killed, 97 wounded and 10 others were arrested," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.
The security forces also discovered and defused several roadside bombs and landmines in addition to seizing weapons and ammunition, according to the statement carried by the Xinhua News Agency.
A total of 17 army personnel were also killed in clashes and roadside bomb attacks within the same period, the statement confirmed.
The Taliban insurgent group has yet to make comments.
The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Security forces have pressed on to clear the militants in restive provinces. The Taliban responds by bombing and carrying out armed attacks.
An attack by Taliban militants on Saturday in Chapa Dara district of eastern Kunar province killed five civilians and wounded eight others, while 11 shops were also destroyed, the provincial police chief, Gen. Abdul Habib Sayyedkhel told Xinhua earlier on Sunday.
