Iran among World’s Top 10 Mineral Producers


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran ranked 10th among countries producing various types of minerals across the world by producing more than 348 million tons in the year 2013.

According to the data released by the International Organizing Committee for the World Mining Congress (WMC), Iran was placed tenth in the world in terms of the volume of the mineral production in 2013.

The organization also said the value of the country’s total mineral production in that year amounted to $162.375 billion, adding that Iran was ranked 8th in the world in terms of the worth of the produced minerals.

In 2013, Iran produced about 300 million tons of mineral fuels, 28.767 million tons of industrial minerals, more than 17.645 million tons of iron and ferroalloys as well as 658.812 thousand tons of non-ferrous metals, the data showed.

China, the US, and Russia are the top three mineral producers in the world in terms of the volume.

The World Mining Congress (WMC), which is a UN-affiliated organization, was initiated in 1958.
